A Lovely Rainy Day...

Refining my preaching skills, this day is totally different for me. I have had these long-time soaking and after that is more on the technical side. Funny as this sounds, but I have searched for random stories and jokes that I could hopefully add to break the ice when I preach… Here’s one cute story I’ve found online… :))

It seems that there was a little old church out in the countryside: painted white and with a high steeple.One Sunday, the pastor noticed that his church needed painting. He checked out the Sunday ads and found a paint sale. The next day, he went into town and bought a gallon of white paint. He went back out to the church and began the job.He got done with the first side. It was looking great. But he noticed he had already used a half gallon. He didn’t want to run back in town and being the creative person that he was, he found a gallon of thinner in the shed out back, and began to thin his paint.It worked out great. He finished the remaining three sides with that last half gallon of paint.That night, it rained: it rained hard. The next morning when he stepped outside of the parsonage to admire his work, he saw that the first side was looking great, but that the paint on the other three sides had washed away.The pastor looked up in sky
in anguish and cried out, “What shall I do?”A voice came back from the heavens saying, “Repaint, and thin no more!”

I am really in awe of how God intervenes with every person’s life… <3 I remember my preaching last Friday, better call it my life testimony… I cannot help but cry and pour out my passion for God and compassion for people. Sharing ones testimony of God changing you is the best salvation story that a man can deliver… Thank You, my Lord Jesus. That moment when I had you enter my heart is still a huge impact to me. And being privileged to make use of our story simply convinces me that I am a chosen one… <3

People may try to define you, label you, or judge you countless times, in any way they want, but they will always be wrong. They will never be accurate, because they weren’t there when God created you. They have not seen the smile on God’s face as He thought of you. They did not witness how tender, careful, and happy He was as He wove who you are piece by piece. They did not see the passion and love in His eyes as He formed you. No. They did not hear God’s plans for you.

They have no idea how much God loves you. They will never know the full measure of your worth to Him. That’s why no one has the right to judge you. You have the power to not listen and believe them.

Only God knows your real worth. Only the Master knows how much of a fine treasure you are. That is why He demonstrated it at the Cross. You were more than just an item, or a thing to Him. You are His beloved. Start seeing yourself that way.

You are a masterpiece. You are gorgeous. God does not want you to fit in society’s standards. He wants you to be beautiful— the way beauty really is in His eyes. You are original. One of a kind. Unique. Designed with great care for an amazing purpose. As far as God is concerned, you are His work in progress, because He is not finished yet. There’s still more, so don’t look down on yourself.

When the POWERLESS defeats the POWERFUL...

This is about JAEL, a woman who was powerless yet was used by God to defeat a powerful opponent of the Israelites, Sisera. This story is written in Judges 4 wherein it started with Deborah, the woman judge / prophetess anointed by the Lord to speak God’s revelations to men during their time. Deborah uttered with her God-breathed words of power that God’s honor will come upon JAEL and that God will deliver Sisera into the hands of a WOMAN.

¹⁷ Sisera, meanwhile, fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was an alliance between Jabin king of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite.¹⁸ Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Come, my lord, come right in. Don’t be afraid.” So he entered her tent, and she covered him with a blanket.¹⁹ “I’m thirsty,” he said. “Please give me some water.” She opened a skin of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him up.²⁰ “Stand in the doorway of the tent,” he told her. “If someone comes by and asks you, ‘Is anyone in there?’ say ‘No.’”²¹ But Jael, Heber’s wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died.²² Just then Barak came by in pursuit of Sisera, and Jael went out to meet him. “Come,” she said, “I will show you the man you’re looking for.” So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera with the tent peg through his temple—dead.²³ On that day God subdued Jabin king of Canaan before the Israelites. ²⁴ And the hand of the Israelites pressed harder and harder against Jabin king of Canaan until they destroyed him.

· JAEL was physically weak and smaller than her opponent

She had to face Sisera who was a Captain of the army of Jabin, the king who attacked Israel. Obviously, her opponent was stronger and bigger than her. But Sisera’s stature didn’t stop her from doing what the Lord wants her to accomplish… and that is to defeat whoever goes against the way of the Lord.

It was God who handed Sisera over to Jael’s hand. What I love most about this is that t’was not because of our strength that we become victorious. It was because of how God makes use of our weaknesses to put to shame the wicked fools. That whatever persecutions and negative perceptions the world tries to shape in our minds, we get to stand firm in the Lord, learn to trust Him all the way, and be unstoppable!

Just as how God has spoken to Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

It was JAEL’s courageous heart and obedience to God that defeated her opponent. GLORY TO GOD!

· JAEL was armed with unusual weapons

She held a peg and a wooden harmer. And this always surprises me, when God sends people for war, no matter how it appears to be funny or absurd in our eyes, still He resourcefully uses odd things as weapons for victory.

Like David who fought with the giant Goliath and won over the opponent with barely 5 stones and a slingshot, we come to realize God’s magnificence and creativity in making use of unusual weapons to defeat the enemy. Totally awesome!

· JAEL was strategically wise than just being experienced…

I bet JAEL was not trained for war, though despite her limitations, she was able to defeat her opponent with her wits and courage. She had a strategy in mind – a pure wisdom from the Lord. You see, it didn’t take much of her effort in killing Sisera.

For one to be victorious over the enemy, what’s more important is we know how to listen and that we have the heart that is obedient of the Lord’s commands. God doesn’t need our outstanding skills and astounding capabilities in order to be used by Him for conquering. Wisdom from God is freely given upon those who are willing to rely with much dependence on the Lord’s will.

· JAEL’s way of defeating the opponent was bloody and brave…

Isn’t it freaky to witness a woman killing the enemy by piercing his skull with peg and wooden hammer? Well, it sounds awesome to me and amazing with how it was made possible to happen. It was kind of brutal and bloody and morbid. Looking at it through the eyes of a warrior, it was cool and fearless and triumphant.

As mighty warriors of God, we are to bear within the core of our hearts this BURNING passion of conquering the enemy. Whatever it takes, whatever it costs, we’re going to conquer anything wicked, foolish, and evil! Living to fight with righteous anger as we know it, Jesus, is our perfect example for it.

“God has not given us the spirit of fear…”NEVER must we fear of our opponent. NEVER must we allow for the enemy’s plan to get in our way. WE must be the first ones to defend our God. If not us, who else would? We’re the most expected to be in the frontline of soldiers, bravely seeking for some bloody fight with the enemy. The Lord-of-the-angel-armies has promised, not a finger of the enemy shall hurt us. We are UNDER HIS COVER. Nothing to be afraid of, it would be as simple as having the enemy asleep then piercing the enemy’s skull with a peg and wooden hammer.

PROMISES I'd definitely got to cling to...

It may be that common to hear from people with good faith that God has a lot of promises in store for us, for those who love the Lord and those who are called for a purpose. You see, we sometimes overuse this line just so we could tickle our ears and somehow please the people who we think need an encouragement, those who need them utmost. Hmm… I guess what I said becomes true basically if you just say it without faith, the words didn’t come from your heart. You’ve said it for the sake of conversation or whatever. It wasn’t spoken with the spirit-filled words of power that God has blessed His prophets with.

GOD’S PROMISES are that true and hope-giving and faith-building. It’s what we MUST believe in and depend on. Not on people alone who we know may fail to meet our expectations, commit mistakes, and break promises… Not as well on situations which we know may suddenly change in an instance… Not on ourselves either… IT IS ALWAYS ABOUT GOD, what He can do to us, where He could take us, how He definitely CAN… through US…

Whenever we get to remind ourselves of these promises, here comes this security of the heart that we have. We now could be confident that God is able to do anything, even the impossible… Nothing is too hard for Him, not one thing.

I want to share with you what God has promised me recently which rejuvenated my spirit, birthed new visions to my spiritual eyes, strengthened my solid-rock-grounded feet, and which breathed new life to my whole being…

I’m going to give YOU a renovation, working a true healing inside and out. I’m going to show YOU life whole, life brimming with blessings. I’ll restore everything that was lost. I’ll build everything back as good as new. I’ll scrub YOU clean from dirt YOU’ve done against me. I’ll forgive everything YOU’ve done wrong, forgive all YOUR rebellion. And YOUR CHURCH will be a center of joy and praise and glory for all the countries of the earth. YOU’LL get reports on all the good I’m doing for YOU. YOU’LL be in awe of the blessings I’m pouring on YOU.

COURAGE: What does it take you to BE COURAGEOUS?

I’d like to share with you what God has told me for my preaching last Friday, December 9, 2011 @ Chosen Generation / JCSGO Paranaque - Antipolo wherein the Word of God first preach to me before through me.

A lot of times whenever I get to be assigned to do tasks in the Lord’s Kingdom I feel intimidated and somehow have this attitude of ignoring the call of God. It’s like something inhibits me from being used by God, having thoughts that I couldn’t do it. I don’t know how or why it happens to me, but one thing’s for sure, it does not come from God.

This time, the Lord has taught me of what courage is about, brought into my heart, and now personally I could testify of its real essence…

“COURAGE”

What does it take you to BE COURAGEOUS?

The word COURAGE came from an Old French word CORAGE meaning “heart and spirit”.

It is something that’s within you. As its definition states, COURAGE is the mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. (Merriam-Webster)

Nowadays, a lot of people do have courage within them but are driven by the wrong forces of this world. Yes, they do have that strength that pushes them, yet are wrongly motivated. In short, their courage is not genuine, not pure, not true.

God has revealed to me 5 steps on how you could see yourself as someone with TRUE COURAGE.

Often as we hear it, before you change the world, you’d have to start it with no one else but yourself. A man to have much courage is expected to see himself/herself from the lense of God, the best way. It is impossible for one to have that strength within if he/she has the wrong self-image. Of course, unless you see yourself as someone who is able, you wouldn’t have the guts to face whatever it is you that have to. True Courage starts when…

You see Christ as your Image

So God created mankind in his own image,

in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:2 (MSG)

This man of courage is born within you when you know for yourself that Christ is alive in you. I mean, who could have thought that a foolish, sinful, wicked man be used for a greater purpose? It is only through Jesus that we are made qualified for God’s redemption.

So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT)

The moment we have accepted Christ and started to follow His footsteps, we have been unveiled of the deception that we are useless, hopeless, and unproductive. We began to bear the image of Christ. And as days go by of doing God’s will, all the more we reflect of this glorious image that pursues our perseverance that we can do things through Christ!

Now having that right image, eventually we get to have this attitude of seeking for the will of God in our lives which leads us into the next step…

You Commit your Ways till the End of the Age

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.

Psalm 37:5-6 (NIV)

Seeking for God’s will over ones life is the one of the bravest thing that a man can do. Why? Letting God’s will and plan prevail in your life entails you dying to yourselfish desires, and also of killing your irresistable desire to conformity into the world’s patterns. Worry not, you could easily let go if let God! We do not have to be afraid of what might happen to us in the future because it surely would be prosperous and successful. A man of courage have the guts to surrender everything and trust God to be the one to drive our lives…

You are Consistent in Spreading The Message

There’s no other agenda for the will of God but for everyone to have this personal relationship with the Lord and be in accordance to what God created us for.

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Luke 19:10 (NIV)

As people developing courage within our hearts, we are to love what God loves. Jesus came all the way from heaven just so we could have this chance to get back in the presence of God, experience His unending love for us, and be guided in every step of our way to Him.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)

If God Himself was patient with us, who are we not to be patient with others? It is expected for us to come across with discouragements, persecutions, and failures. Yet in the midst of these, the Lord wants us to be selfless and not focus on what we’re battling with. Rather, we get busy with seeking for the lost at all cost, the more we become motivated of sharing Jesus to others.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

Romans 1:16 (NIV)

It is not us who’s gonna save them anyway, it is God! CONSISTENCY is essential. We can’t just obey God when we are in the mood or when things are doing good. Whether we spread the Message or not, we’ll have problems to deal with. What’s great about getting into this business of saving people is that even if you have your own struggles, the easily you get to see the solution to it because you know that God is with you. You gain of this fundamental strength that you need to overcome everything.

You Choose to Conquer that be Discouraged

Speaking of overcoming everything and being consistent in doing the will of God is having the willingness to withstand your negative situations with much hope within you.

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Romans 5:3-4 (NIV)

Remember, ALL THINGS WILL WORK FOR GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE GOD AND TO THOSE WHO ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE.

Part of having True Courage is deciding to stand firm in Christ than meditating on your present circumstances. Mind you, all our work for righteousness sake will never be in vain. A man of courage is faithful enough to hold on to God’s promises that no matter what happens, “I’ll stick with the plan of God over me.” Our greatest power is our freewill. It lies in every decision that we make if we want to be victorious or not. God wants us to be wise with our power of choice!

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Romans 8:37 (NIV)

Through Jesus Christ, we add up to our identity this being MORE THAN CONQUERORS! This doesn’t mean that we won’t encounter trials and hardships anymore. (Kaya nga more than Conquerors eh, kasi may kailangan kang i-conquer!) But choosing Jesus for your life is restating all difficulties into JESUS-AND-I-CAN-DO-THIS!

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

AND THIS IS TRUE COURAGE. Courage that perseveres even to that peak of weakness, triggers risk-taking decisions, overcomes the greatest fears in life, forgets past failures and achievements, and brings you to stand firm in faith, be full of hope, and be filled with love… which is to last through the ages.

Lastly, a man of courage is resulted into create an impact to wherever he/she may be. The last step that God has revealed to me is more of the product of having much courage within you wherein it is inevitable to be seen to bear fruit…

You have Compassion to Bring Out Change

A man of courage is filled with compassion to put in effect all of that ignition of God’s love in his/her heart. Pursuing God’s plan of salvation is what pushes a man of courage for he himself has experienced this personal intimacy of the love of God for mankind.

Now we could boldly respond to Him just as how Joshua and his men responded… “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. WHETHER BY LIFE OR BY DEATH, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD! WE ARE WITH YOU GOD, HEART AND SPIRIT!”

If it weren’t because of the people who have been courageous enough to share Jesus to me, I wouldn’t be able to have this precious life I live right now. May God speak to us today and fill us with enough courage to withstand all danger, fear, and difficulties that we face. BE STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS!

After I have preached this day, the Lord has tested my courage right away. Just right after the service, one parent and four baranggay tanod’s came to talk to me!!! Whew! LEVEL-UP! Truly, nor principalities can get us away from spreading God’s love! Haha! Now I am being more sure that I am really called and chosen by God!
